In order to become a marine scientist, I first of all had to get good grades at science GCSEs (2 years). I then went on and studied Maths and Geography at A-Level (2 years). I then went to University of Southampton and studied oceanography (3 years) but liked it so much, I stayed on and did an extra year called a Masters which really went into the subject (1 year). I then left university and worked as an oceanographer (3 years) before returning to university to do specialised research in oceanography aka a PhD (4 years).
So in total, that’s 15 years!
