I’m not a neurologist (brain scientist) but I don’t think any knows the answer to this properly!
The human brain is the most complicated structure in the universe, so it’s going to take a lot more time to understand how it works properly!
I don’t really know that much about brains. I know the brain uses electrical signals to send messages, and sits in a nice bath of liquid. How they actually work though is really complicated, and as Russell says, I don’t think anyone really knows the exact details. We’re starting to understand more now we can start to take pictures of the brain working, with MRI scanners and PET scanners (which are sort of like X-rays but they focus on different things).
