It is an interesting question. And sometimes it is very complicated to answer. I’ll give you an example of one of the latest research I’m collaborating with. Right now I’m studying together with a Hamish Cavaye a collegue of the STFC (https://www.linkedin.com/in/hamish-cavaye-9a850846/?originalSubdomain=uk) and Bernard Mostert from the University of Swansea (https://www.swansea.ac.uk/staff/science/chemistry/mostertab/) the applications of melanin, which is what makes us tan when we sunbathe, to make sensors that are biocompatible and help doctors in the diagnoses.
If the experiments are satisfactory, this research can allow biosensors that are compatible with the human body to make the analyzes easier.
Imagine how useful it can be for a person who has to inject insulin when levels are very low, have a sensor in the body that measures these levels 24 hours a day and sends an alert to the mobile phone when a new dose is needed .
