Rutherfordium Zone
The element Rutherfordium is a radioactive metal. It is what is known as a ‘synthetic element’, meaning it is not found in nature and can only be created in the lab.
In this Physics zone for Primary Schools, you’ll meet a scientist using the largest machine on earth to study the smallest things known to man, another studying the time when the first stars were born and another investigating Jupiter’s X-ray northern and southern lights to help find habitable alien worlds. Another scientist is examining what happens when a drop of water makes contact with different materials, and another scientist is creating science shows, videos, books and interactive art to explain the work of researchers who grow and study crystals.
